CNC machining is a manufacturing process which uses pre-programmed computer software to control the movement of complex tools and machinery. This is from grinders and mills, through to lathes and routers. Having parts CNC machined has many advantages. It can control many different types of tools to cut and fabricate parts and components for a wide range of industries and applications. The use of the computer software as opposed to manually controlling the tools means that we can achieve high levels of accuracy in a fast and efficient manner.

How Does It Work?
CNC uses advanced PC controlling systems and software which allow numerical control – this is essentially a program that is customised for a component. The tools move and operate through numerical control and the machine itself is programmed with “G-code” – the CNC machining language. This language dictates the entire feed rate, coordination, location, and speed of the tools throughout the entire CNC machining process. Additionally, the computers also control the positioning and velocity of the operating tools, allowing for the highest degrees of precision.
To begin with, CAD software (either 2D or 3D) will create a drawing of the desired component. This is before creating a code that the computerised technology will be able to interpret into actions for the tools. After plenty of thorough trialling and testing, the CNC machining with its unique coded instructions can take place.
